My very first client when I became a caregiver taught me many things, but one of the best was how to wash fruit to make it last longer. How many of us get tired of buying fresh fruit only for it to go bad in a few days?

This trick not only taught me how to extend the life of my produce, but it showed me that just rinsing with water wasn't getting the fruit truly clean. You would be surprised at how nasty the water looks when you wash it this way—yuck!

As we prepare to move to the mountains, the convenience of quick store runs or grocery delivery will be a thing of the past. Learning these small ways to save money and reduce waste is a skill I’ll definitely be carrying with us. We cannot wait to grow our own food and live a healthier, self-sufficient, organic life in the mountains!
